It all begins with faith in God.
Believing in God is not like believing in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. God is real, someone you can meet, someone you can talk with. And just so it doesn't go unsaid, God is someone who can tell you what to do, in every sense of that phrase. God can tell you what to do when you want to know, and God can tell you what to do when you don't...
As Creator, God is naturally The Boss. But God's desire for us isn't modeled on human experiences or our misunderstandings. God is the kind of real that makes us want to live. So God wants us to have a close, living and life-giving relationship.
In this Blog I want to take apart an old prayer called The Apostle's Creed. A creed is like a list or statement of what a person believes, what we live by. The Apostle's Creed is famously blunt, almost a shopping-list of ideas and qualities designed to give our faith a strong and practical foundation.
The Creed doesn't cover everything. There are whole libraries on the subject of "What Catholics Believe". But it covers the basics, the things that make us who we are. By revisiting them, meditating on them and discussing them with others, any Catholic can build their faith and make their spiritual life part of their daily world.
So, everything begins with faith. Say it with me. "I believe in God..." Let's see where our faith leads us.
